Remember, as a child, your teacher or parent would give you the connect the dots activity paper? From there, you would have to either connect numbers, letters, or dots, and once completed, and it would turn into the shape of something. Do you remember how fun it was to do that? Were you ever excited about knowing what it would turn out to be? As I was in prayer recently, I have been asking God to connect the dots for my life and others.
As I grow older, the connecting challenges of life don't always bring excitement. Sometimes the objects, situations, or circumstances are not always what we want them to appear. There are times that I struggle with making sense of these situations and events, and I long for just the simplicity of that sheet to give me guidance and direction. While I know that Holy Spirit will guide and direct me, I tend to get discouraged. Sometimes I struggle with life decisions, and I question everything. I realize that I must open my heart to his counsel. When I do that, He whispers His truth to me, guides me, and I'm at peace.
Have you ever noticed that connecting the dots on that sheet of paper doesn't allow you to determine how to connect it yourself? You aren't able to control the outcome of the picture. You must follow the instructions that have been given. HA, such revelation for me. I want to control certain aspects of my life, and in the past few years, it has been difficult; however, God knows what the picture of my life will look like because he is in control of the dots. My God! Over the past few years, I have tried to control every single thing that has happened in my life. I've wanted to give up, throw in the towel, and forget the process. I know that I can't. God knows where the dots of my life will lead. I struggle with the unknown of how those dots will come out to be.
The Holy Spirit works in and through us to connect the life dots between our heart and God's heart. He is the connector between our problems and God's solutions. As we go humbly into prayer, begin to ask God to help you take the next step or next decision. Like the dots, he will faithfully lead us to the next step with his wisdom. Connecting the dots reveals intricate patterns of understanding the events in our lives. What does connecting the dots of your life mean for you?
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lead not onto your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.
In closing, my sister, I ask that you invite Holy Spirit to lead you in every capacity of your life. Open your heart even when it is difficult. Call on him to help you and trust his whispers and guidance. Trust that God is connecting the dots of your life into such a beautiful masterpiece!
Spend time in God's word!
